Breath

Breath, breathing… life. It’s seemingly such a simple unconscious act but in reality it’s far from it. Our breath is our life force and we don’t even have to think about it because it’s a natural physiological phenomena. What we don’t often consider though, is how much our breath affects our mental state and vice versa. When we are anxious, stressed, etc our breath often becomes shallow and irregular without us even noticing it. If our emotions can affect our physical act of breathing then isn’t it fair to assume that the opposite is true? By controlling our breath we can change the mentality in our present circumstance. Consciously pausing, breathing in deep, full and rich we can create space for ourselves and calm our minds.

Our breath is essential to our mental health, our meditation and our yoga practice. Learning to control the breath allows us to control our minds.
